For Men Interested in Becoming Big Buddies
How We Select

The Application process
What follows is an outline of what’s involved in becoming a Big Buddy. It may seem long-winded but don’t be put off by the process – the fact is we do have to be very sure you are a man of good character who will be a good, reliable role model to a Little Buddy.
Because volunteer mentors have to be able to commit to spending up to two hours a week with their Little Buddy for at least a year, the first thing we need to establish is that you can make that kind of commitment - remember Little Buddies have probably already experienced upheaval in their young lives and we don ’t want to add to their problems.
Secondly, we need to make sure you understand the aims of the programme before making a commitment. If you’re on board with these requirements, we’ll get you to fill out an Application Form, including character references, both personal and professional and a reference from your doctor. We’ll check them out and for obvious reasons we’ll do a Police Check.
The next step is a Personal Interview and a Psychological Assessment - don’t be daunted by this; think of it as a Warrant of Fitness check up!
Assuming all is well, you will have a training session before a ‘match’ is negotiated between you and the mother of a Little Buddy. Then you’re away – you and your Little Buddy will start meeting weekly, doing all sorts of fun things that will be rewarding for both of you.
You’ll be supported with monthly phone calls and any other support you need; if a problem crops up that you can’t handle, we’re only a phone call away.
Fortunately, we can guarantee the rewards of mentoring will out way the process of becoming one!
