How can you support Big Buddy?
Lots of ways!
Would you consider becoming a Big Buddy?
It would involve you spending about two hours a week with a boy who doesn’t have a good male role model in his life. You’d get to do fun things like kick a ball round a park, go fishing or walking on the beach – maybe just listen to the boy talk. The activities certainly don’t have to be expensive to be a hit with boys. In fact, spending time with Little Buddies doing everyday things is what helps them get a sense of what it is to be a good man. It’s rewarding, it’s fun and it’s meaningful. Spending about two hours a week with a boy who has no positive male role model contributes something positive to the world; it’s a practical way for men to help make the world a better and safer place to live. As we always say, ‘One man can’t change the world but he can make world of difference to one boy ’s life – one visit at a time.’
Do you have a friend who’d make a great Big Buddy?
Most good men would probably support the aims of the Big Buddy mentoring programme but we accept not every man is in a position to volunteer his time to it. However, there is still something you can do to help - scan round your friends and see if there is anyone you think would make a good Big Buddy. Tell him about the programme, show him this website and encourage him to contact. We’ll take it from there.

Do you know a boy who would benefit from mentoring?
Most healthy men know when they see a boy who is ‘lost’ and they probably wish he had better role models on his journey to manhood. Fact is, some boys don’t! If you know a boy who you think would benefit from having a Big Buddy, tell his mother or caregiver about the Big Buddy mentoring programme and encourage her to contact us.

Can you donate money to the programme?
It costs about $5000 to set up and support a ‘match’ (Big Buddy and Little Buddy relationship). This allows for establishment (including screening) and ongoing support of the relationship, training for the Big Buddy, liaison with the mother or caregiver (often a grandmother) and some group outings.
The Big Buddy Trust is a charitable trust that is well managed on a tight budget! We are judicious in our spending of funding that comes mainly from charitable trusts, businesses and individual donations and a small amount from Child Youth and Family Services. We are looking to get more support from small to medium sized businesses – particularly family owned and operated ones with an empathy for the aims of the Big Buddy mentoring programme.
Any amount of money you are able to donate helps us in our work. If you can support a ‘match’ that’s fantastic, but we gratefully receive any donations in the spirit they are given. It all helps. Your donation is tax deductible. If you want to donate contact us to find out how.
