Barworks BarworksWhat better way to raise money for mentoring fatherless boys than with other like-minded folk over a drink and a sumptuous meal? With the thoughtful addition of auction items and raffles this organisations' financial and creative contribution to our cause is significant. Joylab Long LunchesJoylab, a network of over 20 eateries, drinkeries and meeteries across Auckland, chose to partner with Big Buddy over three years ago. They have since hosted almost 10 Long Lunch events to raise money for Big Buddy. This group recently rebranded from Barworks to Joylab; they explain that theirs is a business of bringing people together, connecting the hearts of Aucklanders to bring, quite simply, joy!Building a relationship with Big Buddy was based on this social philosophy and to date, over $150,000 has been raised thanks to the generosity of business owners and managers in the Joylab network. Not only do the after-cost funds raised from the long lunch tickets work their way towards bettering fatherless boys’ lives, the proceeds from raffles and silent auctions increase the amount finally donated.Pictured here are Big Buddy Trust Chair Travis Field (left) and Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen's Director Mark Jackson, holding the result of a 2017 Lunch. In summer last year we were also lucky enough to receive $16,000 from another of our Joylab family, The Lula Inn. Pictured is BB CEO Paul Burns and previous manager of The Lula Inn, Kevin Fraser. Gifts like this really do make lasting change possible. But the charity of this organisation doesn't stop there. In March 2018, Jamie Freeman and Steve Shute of the Joylab family generated over $2000 in donations offered to their sponsored weight loss bid. That's what you call a win-win....or is it a win-lose?!Read more about why a philosophy of Giving is so important to our cause.
