Among mentoring experts

Children's Commissioner Andrew Becroft

Last week our Wellington coordinator, Dave Burcher joined a group of Wellington mentors at the annual Fathers’ Breakfast, hosted by The Parenting Place at Wellington’s Shed 5 on Queen’s Wharf.

Speakers included Michael Jones (ex All Black Legend), Andrew Becroft (pictured, Children’s Commissioner), Christopher Luxon (Chief Executive Officer of Air NZ), Greg Flemming (CEO The Parenting Place), John Cowan (Senior presenter and creative producer of The Parenting Place).

Each presenter spoke passionately about their experience of being a father and the impact their fathers’ mentoring has had on their lives.

At the conclusion Dave and the team were lucky enough to steal some time with Michael Jones for a group photo and to thank him personally for his ongoing support of the Big Buddy Mentoring programme. Dave says it was a real privilege to meet him in person – such a humble man. He thanked us all for the work we do helping to raise boys into good men and took the time to talk to the men before he had to leave.
