Our Big Buddy Wellington community got together for this year’s Big Buddy Day Out at the Brookfield Outdoor Education Centre. The weather wasn’t perfect, but it held long enough for boys, Big Buddies, and whānau to enjoy the outdoors and spend time together. The relaxed atmosphere, good conversations, and genuine connection made it a great day.
A Whānau Day in Every Sense
What we really enjoyed was having mums, siblings and wider whānau join in. One Big Buddy even brought his toddler, who happily took in all the activity. Families mixed easily with the Big and Little Buddy matches throughout the day, creating a relaxed environment where everyone could spend time together and see the strong mentoring relationships our matches are building.
Activities That Kept Everyone Involved
The fields and waterways at Brookfield were busy all afternoon. A loose, good‑natured game of football quickly became a highlight, with plenty of friendly competition and some impressive saves from both the boys and their Big Buddies.
Those keen for a bit more adventure took kayaks out onto the calm water, or lined up for the ever-popular flying fox, a firm favourite every single year.

We were once again grateful for the generous support of Pattle Delamore Partners, who provided a delicious lunch for everyone. Their ongoing commitment to catering our events ensures our whānau can relax, recharge, and head back into the afternoon feeling fuelled and looked after.
Ending on a Sweet Note
As tradition demands, the day wrapped with a high‑energy lolly scramble—always a crowd favourite and the perfect way to finish on a fun note as everyone came together one last time.
