How we make a positive match

During the application process for both potential Big and Little Buddies, our Mentoring Managers spend a lot of time getting to know them. Personalities, interests and character are taken into account to ensure we make a strong match that will benefit everyone.

For Big Buddy One-2-One, when we think we have found a good match we discuss it with each party and if everyone is happy an initial meeting is facilitated. Then both parties independently decide if the match is right for them. If everyone is agreeable then a match is made and the Big and Little Buddy are officially paired and will start meeting each week to spend time together.

For Big Buddy Group, there is no matching process between Buddies and boys. The group of 3-4 volunteer Buddies, along with the facilitators work with all the boys in the group. Before the programme begins a training evening is held for the Buddies to discuss the boys and how the course will run.

Ongoing Support

The first 3-months of a One-2-One match is considered a trial period for everyone. During this time all parties are supported by their dedicated Mentoring Manager who will have regular check-ins with them.

Big Buddies are encouraged to attend our Mentor Support Meetings where they meet with other Big Buddies. During these sessions, we provide a range of educational programs designed to help them grow in their role as a Buddy and the opportunity to discuss being a buddy with peers. After the 3 month trial, our Volunteer Coordinator will look after your match and support you with ongoing resources and invitations to events.

And of course, at all times the Mentoring Manager is only a phone call away. We are always available to discuss any matters or simply catch up with how things are going.
