Big Buddy One-2-One

Big Buddy One-2-One

Big Buddy One-2-One matches one boy with one volunteer male role model, a Big Buddy. This programme supports boys aged between 7 and 14. This programme runs in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington.

A Big Buddy is a male volunteer who volunteers his time to support a young boy without his father in his life and has gone through our stringent Selection Process.

A Big and Little Buddy typically catch up for 2 to 3 hours most weeks, generally on a weekend. They choose what they want to do together. This can be anything from walking the dog, throwing a ball around, or visiting a café or even a museum. Just simple things they enjoy together.

The Little Buddy can build a purposeful and trusting relationship with his Big Buddy, who will guide, support and encourage him. For a young boy, having a good consistent man who comes back week after week makes a huge difference and helps him grow into a good man.

Research shows that providing a good male role model to a young boy helps them gain a greater feeling of well-being, improved interpersonal skills, a more positive attitude towards education, less aggressive behaviour, and less likelihood of using drugs and alcohol.
