The Bunnings Trade Team in Christchurch recently hosted their second ever charity golf day, bringing together trade suppliers, customers, and supporters for a fantastic day on the course — all while raising vital funds for Big Buddy Mentoring Trust.
With great weather, friendly competition, and an incredible sense of community, the event proved to be an outstanding success. Most importantly, the day raised over $26,000 for Big Buddy, making a meaningful contribution toward supporting boys who need a positive male role model in their lives.
Supporting the Future of Big Buddy’s Group Programme
The funds raised will help support Big Buddy’s Group Programme, an initiative designed to support teenage boys and complement our traditional one-to-one mentoring model.
As Big Buddy continues to grow, the Group Programme will play an important role in reaching more boys and extending support into new regions across Aotearoa. The generosity of the Christchurch trade community means more young boys will have access to guidance, friendship, and experiences that help build confidence and resilience.
A Huge Effort from the Bunnings Trade Team
Pulling off an event of this scale takes dedication and teamwork, and the Bunnings Trade Team did an incredible job bringing the day together. From organising sponsors and activities to arranging prizes and ensuring everything ran smoothly, their hard work created a truly memorable event for everyone involved.
Their commitment to supporting the community — both through their work and through initiatives like this — continues to make a real difference.

The event would not have been possible without the generous backing of Bunnings’ trade partners and sponsors. A big thank you goes to:

Sharing the Impact

Big Buddy Co-CEO Christie Stuart attended the golf day and had the opportunity to speak with attendees about the impact their support has on the organisation and the boys it serves.
She shared how fundraising efforts like this do more than support programmes today — they help create long-term change for young boys who benefit from the guidance, friendship, and stability that mentoring provides.
Chris Millar, South Island and Wellington Sales Manager (pictured above), reflected on the positive response from those involved in the day:
“We were pleased and proud to be associated with Big Buddy and to have the opportunity to do something good for a great cause. I was both surprised and delighted at the response and positive curiosity from a number of our customers.”
Community Making a Difference
The Christchurch golf day once again showed what can happen when businesses, suppliers, and customers come together for a shared purpose.
Thanks to the dedication of the Bunnings Trade Team and the generosity of their trade partners, over $26,000 will now go toward helping Big Buddy expand opportunities for boys who need it most.
A huge thank you to everyone who played, sponsored, organised, and supported the day. Your contribution will have an impact not just today — but long into the future.
