Big Buddy Community Day Out at Wero

2

The weather might have been a little unpredictable, but it certainly didn’t stop our Big Buddy community from making the most of a great day out at Wero.

More than 20 Big Buddy matches joined us for a community event that saw mentors and boys take on a mix of flat-water activities and the high ropes course. Split into groups, everyone spent around 90 minutes on each activity before coming together for some kai to finish off the day.

What stood out most was seeing the connections between our matches. From some of our newest pairs through to those who have been matched for years, there was a real sense of encouragement and support throughout the day. Whether it was tackling the high ropes, stepping onto a paddleboard for the first time, or simply spending time together outdoors, everyone got stuck in.

The team at Wero were fantastic hosts. They created an environment where participants felt safe, supported, and willing to challenge themselves, while keeping the day running smoothly from start to finish.

There were heaps of great moments. Some boys confidently climbed higher than they ever thought they would on the ropes course, while others discovered just how easy it is to end up in the water when balancing on a paddleboard. Either way, there were lots of smiles, encouragement from the sidelines, and a willingness to give things a go.

Events like these provide an opportunity for our matches to strengthen their friendships while connecting with the wider Big Buddy community. It’s always special to see mentors and boys sharing new experiences together and creating memories that will last long after the day is over.

A huge thank you to the Wero team for having us and helping make the day such a success. We look forward to the next one.
