On Wednesday 13th May 2026, we gathered at Fantail & Turtle for what can only be described as another extraordinary afternoon of connection, generosity, and celebration. With the sun shining and the energy high from the moment guests arrived, the event set the tone for something really special.
A Wonderful Turnout
We were thrilled with the incredible turnout and support from our community. It was inspiring to see so many familiar faces alongside new supporters, all coming together with a shared purpose.
We were also privileged to have Big Buddy Mentoring Trustees Mark Talbot and Claire Wilson, and Big Buddy Foundation Trustee Jeff Meltzer, in attendance, and of course, former BB Chair and owner of Fantail & Turtle, Travis Field. Their ongoing guidance and support continue to strengthen our work.
A Tradition of Generosity
Thanks to the generosity in the room and beyond, we are proud to share that over $40,000 was raised on the day. This is an outstanding achievement and will go a long way in supporting the Big Buddy kaupapa.
A particular highlight was the introduction of our online auction platform, which proved to be a huge success. Seeing people engage both in-room and online across the motu added a new and exciting dimension to the experience – we can’t wait to build on this in the future.
Inspiring Speakers
The afternoon was hosted by Big Buddy Co-CEO, Christie Stuart. We were honoured to hear from a lineup of incredible speakers:
- Noel Barkley, who delivered a heartfelt and honest address that resonated deeply with everyone in the room, interviewed by Travis Field.
- Our long-term legacy match, Mick and Tyrone, who shared their journey together—a moving testament to the lasting impact of mentorship.
- Hans Ottow whose generosity continues to inspire as he announced his donation of a section in the Harmony Bay development in Algies Bay.
Exceptional Hospitality
Travis Field alongside the team at Fantail & Turtle truly outdid themselves. The food was outstanding, with beautifully matched beers and wines with each course that elevated the entire experience. The service was seamless, warm, and attentive throughout the afternoon—ensuring everyone felt well looked after from start to finish.
